HAPs Challenge Tackles Carol Ann Duffy
18th March 2018
Carol Ann Duffy's The World's Wife was the focus of Friday's English Literature HAPs Challenge class. Pupils studied a selection of poems, from the collection, without the titles! The challenge was to work out the connection between the poems and the overall theme. Queen Herod led the class on their way as one group 'cracked' the poem, working out that the setting and time seemed to be biblical and pieced together the clues to conclude that King Herod was the powerful male. Perceptively, the same group concluded that Duffy wanted to give the associated female her voice. Impressive work from pupils in Years 7-9! Following this, the class quickly 'solved' they mystery of Mrs Midas, The Devil and The Kray Sisters, to name a few. There was a real 'buzz' during the lesson: HAPs Challenge at its best! Classes will now return after Easter: more details to follow. |
